CONTR IB UT ORS 1 1 2 Tracy Allen is CEO of Brewed Behavior, founded to offer comprehensive support to all segments of the coffee industry. As one of the original members of the U.S. Barista Championship Committee and the first chair of the Rules and Regulations Committee for the World Barista Championship, Tracy has trained multiple national and regional barista champions and served as a judge and judges' trainer for the USBC and WBC. He is also an SCAA "Supertaster," certified cupper, and Q-grader instructor. (Cashbox, p. 72) 2 3 4 Laila Ghambari was born and raised in Seattle. She is the director of education for Caffe Ladro and sits on the Executive Council of the Barista Guild of America. When her life is not consumed by coffee, she likes to hike and read. (Field Report: Iran, p. 36) 3 Michelle Foster double-dips in coffee and art, holding an M.F.A. in sculpture and acting as a part of the SCAA's Competitions Committee. She plans to summer in Montauk, NY, working at Coffee Tauk and as the coffee manager and pastry sidekick at South Edison Restaurant. After "the season" she hopes to remain in both coffee and art professionally. (Pull, p. 28) 5 6 7 8 4 Mohammad Khani is the education manager of Caffé Molinari in Tehran, Iran. He is also a barista trainer at Homa Hospitality, an academy focused on the food and beverage industry and customer service. He went to university for tourism/hospitality. His grandfather was a botanist, and Mohammad's childhood exposure to aromatics and plants led him to a love for coffee. His nickname in the military was "Coffee Bean." (Field Report: Iran, p. 36) 5 Miro Lomeli has a solid litany of titles under his belt: barista, trainer, roaster, buyer, production, and pizza-eater. Miro is currently the head of coffee operations at the Ugly Mug Café in Ypsilanti, Mich. His recent trip to origin has instilled a new sense of responsibility and pride in our craft and, without question, reinforced his drive to evolve specialty coffee. Currently the director of education and lead sales manager at Visions Espresso Service, Cole leads training classes and consults with shop owners. Cole was recently elected to the Barista Guild of America's Executive Council, and he looks forward to serving the barista community in that capacity. He is also an active Barista Competition and Brewers Cup competitor, and says he enjoys the training and performance process. With a long history in the coffee industry working as a barista, trainer, competitor, and Barista Guild of America member, it's not uncommon to see coffee show up in his work. His photography focuses a great deal on lifestyle, as well as artisan craftspeople and thriving small businesses.
