Alan is a member of the Specialty Coffee Association of Europe and is an international coffee and café mentor. He was a founding partner of Delish Cafés in Ireland, and opened Ireland's first dedicated barista training academy in 2012. His company, www.coffeeculture.ie, has trained and educated more than 1,000 coffee professionals, from baristas to business owners in Ireland and abroad. He was born in Ireland's capital city, Dublin, and today lives in Limerick, Ireland. (Pull, p. 28) 2 Darrin Daniel is the green-coffee buyer for Stumptown Coffee Roasters, a Portland, Ore.-based coffee company founded in 1999. He has worked in specialty coffee for over 20 years, and previously served as the coffee and tea buyer for Allegro Coffee Company/Whole Foods Market from 2003 to 2011. He has traveled in pursuit of the finest coffees in more than 19 producing countries. Darrin has served as an international judge for Cup of Excellence and other national coffee competitions in Brazil, Peru, Honduras, El Salvador, and Rwanda. A graduate in literature and poetics from Naropa University in Boulder, Colo., Darrin founded Cityful Press books in 1993, publishing authors such as Allen Ginsberg, Charles Bukowski, filmmaker Harry Smith, Anne Waldman, Gregory Corso, and Grateful Dead lyricist Robert Hunter. (Field Report: Indonesia, p. 36) 3 Erin Meister is a coffee professional with a totally-not-atall-secret double life as a writer and a journalist. (Worst. Clark. Kent. Ever.) When she's in her coffee cups, she's a regional representative for Counter Culture Coffee's Counter Intelligence education program. (Changing with Climate Change, p. 62) 4 4 5 Antonio Moroleon was born in Guanajuato, the cradle of Mexican independence, but he's lived in and been in love with Guadalajara for the last 13 years he's lived there. The grandson of a photographer, Antonio studied communication sciences and photography in university, and now works in advertising and creates new brands. Antonio loves cold coffee drinks, especially a double espresso served over ice. He loves his country and its customs, and he's proud of his culture and his family. Antonio feels lucky to be able to do what he loves and be able to call it work. (Cover photo and photography for Fabrizio Sención Ramírez, p. 56) 5 Bethany Ng is an illustrator and art director. She is originally from San Diego, Calif. but currently resides in Portland, Ore. While the Portland weather tends to bum her out most of the time, she makes the most of it by going snowboarding, cooking, hanging out with her dogs, and drinking copious amounts of locally roasted coffee. Her illustration style is simple, fun, colorful, often humorous, and lighthearted. She enjoys illustrating environments, objects, and animals most.
