Sulawesi. Their recent efforts have been heavily concentrated on their Sunda project, a unique endeavor that focuses on restoration of new plantings, select variety plantings, and technical farming training. It also aims to improve practices of fermentation, drying, and grading. I've had my eye on this group for the past three years, and cup quality has steadily been improving. I was excited to get a closer look and visit their dry mill plant on the outskirts of Bandung. The main districts are Garut and Ciwidey, which are southwest of Bandung. Coffees are dried on elevated beds in covered greenhouses. Plant ages range from seven to eight years, and altitudes average for most of the farmers around 1,500 meters. Varieties include Ateng, S795, Arusha, and some Catimor. These coffees are mostly fully washed, though some are wet-hulled. The growth of specialized and selected coffees from West Java is extensive, and over the next few years, I think we will see an abundance of new offerings.
