It's All Going Down in Dublin The international coffee community will converge in Dublin, June 22–25 for the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe's annual World of Coffee event, and the most famous coffee contest on the planet: the World Barista Championship. Among the highlights of these Dublin days: The Beyond the Bean/La Marzocco/Barista Magazine/Reg Barber party on Friday, June 24; and the awards ceremony on Saturday, June 25, where one barista's entire life will change when he or she is named 2016 World Barista Champion. www.worldofcoffee-dublin.com La Marzocco Café Opens in Seattle Boutique espresso machine company La Marzocco opened the doors to a magnificent café and showroom inside indie radio station KEXP's new Seattle Center digs in mid April. Though the La Marzocco factory is headquartered in Florence, Italy, La Marzocco's North American offices are in the heart of Seattle, so the launch of the company's first and hugely anticipated café space in the iconic coffee city made perfect sense. "For some time, we've felt that La Marzocco was ready for a physical location, a place where we would showcase the creativity and diversity of coffee roasters from around the world," says Joe Monaghan, president of La Marzocco North America, noting the café's exciting Roasters in Residence Program, which will welcome roasters for one-month residencies to the Seattle space. "I couldn't be prouder of what the team has created." www.lamarzoccousa.com Barista Nation, Mardi Gras Style With the kind of steamy weather cold-brew coffee was made for, New Orleans is set to be one of the next big spots on the specialty-coffee map. So it makes sense that Unic's Brian Cornelsen chose the city for the next Barista Nation event, July 14. Known as one of the most progressive, education-focused workshop and lecture events for baristas and café owners, Barista Nation will serve the greater Southeast region a phenomenal day of coffee excellence, beginning with a keynote from newly crowned United States Barista Champion Lem Butler.
