P U L L : E V E N T S Seven thousand coffee professionals hailing from more than 100 countries traveled to Budapest, Hungary, to attend the World of Coffee, which is Europeʼs preeminent annual coffee conference and exhibition. The World of Coffee is an event produced by the Specialty Coffee Association, which boasted more than 200 exhibitors in large stands as well as the boutique Village; ongoing forums, workshops, and cuppings; and three full days of international coffee championships. At the end of each packed day, the international crowd made their way to a social events hosted by the Specialty Coffee Association, as well as plenty of parties. Lok Chan of Hong Kong couldnʼt be happier as the newly crowned World Cup Tasters Champion. This competition awards the professional coffee cupper who demonstrates speed, skill, and accuracy in distinguishing the tastes differences in specialty coffee. After placing second in the 2016 World Coffee In Good Spirits Championship, Slovakiaʼs Martin Hudák (left) won top honors at the 2017 event that promotes innovative coffee-based recipes and mixology skills. At Martinʼs side is Arnon Thitiprasert of Thailand, who won the 2017 World Latte Art Championship, a contest wherein baristas are judged based on visual attributes, creativity, identical patterns, and contrast in patterns. In the large glassed-in cupping lab at World of Coffee, cuppings took place around the clock, featuring coffees from all over the world and presented by top roasters and importers.
