I love it because dairy freaks me out and it's really easy to get busy and not check the milk/cream containers every couple hours if they are living on a countertop. It means I have one less thing to worry about during day-to-day operations, and one less thing to sweat should the health department show up. How does it contribute to your skills as a barista? It takes a to-do list item (checking cream/milk pitchers) off of my plate so that I can focus more on taking care of people and making coffee during my shift. What do your coworkers think of it? We used to give out individual cream/ milk pitchers before we got our condiment bar, and sometimes we reminisce about how ridiculous that was, so they're pretty fond of it, I think. Why is it important? We want milk and cream to be super accessible to our guests. Everyone should be able to drink their coffee the way they like it, and this helps us offer that in a safe, temperature-controlled way. How did you come up with the idea to put a mini fridge in the condiment bar? We've had a variety of condiment bars at Amethyst since we opened, but when I could finally afford to build the one I wanted, I knew that I wanted to nix the part of the barista's day where they have to constantly refill half-and-half or milk containers. That still happens once in awhile, obviously, but this way is much more streamlined.
