Ma placed 8th in the semifi nal round. Australian Barista Champion Craig Simon is a veteran of these competitions, and he truly brought his A game with a performance that hinged on the barista approaching coff ee as a sommelier does wine. The world launch of the Faema E71E espresso machine caused an audible buzz on the show fl oor, with champion baristas from around the world waiting for a turn to take the machine—which features adjustable pressure se ings, a range steam lever, and much more—for a test drive. The Barista Champion of Greece, Michalis Katsiavos placed 5th in the world at the WBC. Michalis hails from The Underdog, a coff ee company celebrated for having three World Coff ee In Good Spirits champions on staff . The Underdog owner Tasos Delichristos was thrilled with Michalis' performance: "Now people will know we are not just bartenders!" he laughed. The Barista Champion of Indonesia, Muhammad Aga, mixed things up by incorporating an AeroPress into his WBC preliminary performance. Muhammad, who works for a company called Shoot Me In the Head, placed 18th overall.
