Aida Batlle + The New Yorker on film We have always thought that coffee producer Aida Batlle's name deserves to be lit up on a marquee, so naturally we're glad to see that The New Yorker magazine agrees: Aida was recently featured in a fantastic video for the cultured magazine's "Annals of Obsession" series, an amazing media feast exploring everything from bread to storm-chasing to ASMR to cats— and now high-quality coffee. The video was filmed both at the Counter Culture Coffee Los Angeles training center and on location at Aida's farms in El Salvador where the film crew "saw the picking, the processing, even the cupping," she says. Aida was also able to speak a little about how she started in specialty coffee and where she sees the industry going, as well as how she works with roasters. Aida was profiled in a long feature for the print magazine back in 2011, in a piece about her singular passion and devotion to pursuing absolute coffee perfection. During the years in between she's only gotten more curious, more ambitious, and grown her vision—so this video seems like the perfect "where are they now?" to follow up the written piece. Despite being under the bright lights as one of the world's most famous, well-respected, and sought-after producers—as well as an all- around rad human being—Aida responds to the attention with a little bit of a playful smirk. "I'm proud as f**k of what I've done and what I'm doing, but I'm not sure I'm the best," she says (Editor's note: We think she's definitely one of the best.) Check out the video yourself on The New Yorker's website, and while you're there, search the archives for "Sacred Grounds" by Kelefa Sanneh, that seminal 2011 article.
