PU LL: EV ENT S SPEAKEASY: AN EVENT WITHIN THE EVENT SINCE BARISTA NATION WAS LAUNCHED in May of 2011, Barista Magazine has proudly supported the model: a traveling showcase of free coffee education, free hands-on time with equipment and products, and free opportunities to network and build community. Did we mention it's free? Barista Nation has traveled the globe in the past few years, hosting outstandingly successful daylong events from Tokyo to Los Angeles to Minneapolis to Paris—with many other stops in between. But the groundbreaking event is about to do something it's never done before: host an event within The Event. Of course, we're talking about the Specialty Coffee Association of America's (SCAA) annual conference, called The Event, which will be held in Boston April 11–14. In the midst of the action at the Boston Convention Center, Barista Nation will host an ongoing Satellite Café and free educational workshops. Speakers include Helen Russell of Equator Coffee; Erik Nicholson of United Farm Workers of America; Heather Perry of Klatch Coffee; Clayton Jones of Unic; and Jason Burton of The LAB. Headed to Boston for the SCAA conference? Then be sure to stop by Barista Nation's Satellite Café, which will be located right outside of the entrance to the show floor. Grab a cup of expertly made espresso and take a break to listen to one of the educational sessions. For a complete schedule of events, go to www.baristanation.com. —Staff reports Since its launch in Minneapolis in 2011, Barista Nation has become the preeminent event for baristas around the world.
