Membership Membership growth has increased steadily over the last 12 months. At the end of April, we had 1,193 BGA members, up 23.7 percent in one year and up 58.6 percent since 2011. This is exciting for many reasons—as our numbers grow, so too can our collective efforts. We've also produced or expanded several member benefits over the last year such as the Member Driven Events (MDE) program and the BGA-driven Green Guide for café retailers, just to mention a few. With so much activity and growth in our ranks, 78 barista magazine FM there's never been a more exciting time to be a part of the BGA. That may seem like a lot of progress in one year, but it's really just the beginning of what we intend to accomplish. Other projects like a sexy new website, competition prep-fests, and various regional events are all in the works. If you and I have talked about the BGA membership in person, you might remember me comparing it to being a member of your local chamber of commerce. For a small business, the chamber of commerce can be super valuable if you invest the time into the opportunities it provides. The BGA is no different. It can be super valuable to you whether you are a barista, manager, owner, importer, roaster, or producer, but you have to invest time into it. Being a BGA member isn't just something you sign up for, it's something that all of our members are a part of, and actively support in making a reality.
