how their coffees were being used in
today's market and how they may be
able to anticipate further changes
coming in the future.
The future looms large in Brazil.
It's not just in the upcoming global
events like the 2014 World Cup and
2016 Olympics, but also the fact
that future is deeply entwined with
the Brazilian national identity.
Emblazoned across the middle of
the Brazilian flag is the country's
national motto: "Order and progress."
It's derived from the 19th-century
French philosopher Auguste Comte's
declaration: "Love as a principle and
order as the basis; progress as the
goal." Progress as the goal sounds
a lot like what the Brazilian coffee
industry is aiming for right now.

Many a endees at International Coffee Week were interested in learning more about the market
for Brazilian coffees abroad. Ryan Knapp of Madcap Coffee in Grand Rapids, Mich. spoke about his
experience as a retailer of specialty coffees and the customers his company serves.
