Coen van Sprang loves: The stubby screwdriver

"This is one of the most important things I have, and it's with me all the time. My secret
little screwdriver is so small that it fits everywhere: in my bag, my pockets, and almost
in my wallet. I'm a cleanoholic, and when it comes to preparing espresso, your machine
has to be as clean as possible—it's the only way to make sure coffee tastes its absolute
best. Some of the most underestimated parts of the espresso machine are the shower
screens! People always forget to take them out to get rid of the dirty, old coffee fines
which stick on the screens like bubblegum. But thanks to my little screwdriver, I can
easily turn, flip, polish, and flush each grouphead so it will brew a perfect shot of
coffee!"

Jason Moore loves: The Yama Silverton coffee/tea dripper
Assistant roaster, barista at the Red E Café; Portland, Oregon
www.espressoparts.com
"The biggest reason I love the Yama Silverton coffee/tea dripper is because it has a
manual shut-off valve. The valve makes it a hugely diverse brewer, ranging from full
immersion to something like a restricted Beehouse. For a full immersion, typically cold
brew, I really like using the stock ceramic filter to make it really clean and crisp. For
a pour-over, the Able Brewing Kone works wonderfully. The dripper is clearly not just
limited to coffee—it also handles tea awesomely. For the geekier of us, you can even use
it as a separation funnel; in my case, for percolated herbal tincture extractions."
