PU LL: E V EN T S RIMINI GETS READY FOR GLOBAL COFFEE SHOWCASE SOME OF THE GREATEST BARISTAS on the planet will congregate in Rimini, Italy, June 10–12, when the Speciality Coffee Association of Europe (SCAE), together with its sister company, World Coffee Events (WCE), hosts the prestigious World Barista Championship (WBC). The flagship competition will take top billing at World of Coffee 2014, a three-day coffee extravaganza which is set to attract more than 5,000 leading international coffee professionals and suppliers to the Italian seaside city. Organized by the SCAE, World of Coffee is Europe's largest speciality-coffee showcase, incorporating three world coffee competitions—the World Barista Championship, the World Brewers Cup, and the World Coffee Roasting Championship—and the annual SCAE business summit. More than 200 coffee-industry suppliers will also promote their products and services at World of Coffee, which will be held in the Rimini Fiera Trade Fair Centre (www.riminifiera.it). Suppliers' innovation and quality will be recognized and honored by the SCAE through the New Product of the Show Awards and the SCAE Awards for Coffee Excellence, while coffee enthusiasts can learn all about the latest trends and developments in microroasting and producing in the dedicated Village—a special farmers-market type 22 barista magazine The Specialty Coffee Association of Europe's (SCAE) World of Coffee event June 10–12, comes on the heels of a very successful SCAE World of Coffee event in Nice, France, (opposite page) in the summer of 2013. That show played host to barista competitions such as the World Latte Art Championship, won by Hisako Yoshikawa (pictured above) of Ogawa Coffee Co. Ltd. in Japan. At the World of Coffee event in Rimini, the revered World Barista Championship will be held. The SCAE conference and exhibition is annually one of the highest quality specialty-coffee shows in the world. area in which attendees are encouraged to linger and explore—at the event. As the birthplace of espresso, Italy is the ideal location for World of Coffee 2014, says David Veal, executive director of the SCAE.
