23 a third-generation coffee farmer who grew up working on his dad's farm. Instead of just submitting a random lot sample for this com- petition, Brayan implemented three fermen- tation experiments, cupped each sample, and submitted what he thought was the best-tasting lot. The hard work paid off as he got the top Roasters United Farm Improvement grant— 1.8 million of the 3.6 million peso total—that Brayan says he wants to use to buy more drying beds, replace farm equipment, and to help pay for transporting his coffee to the dry mill. The farm-grant will help him be sustain- able for years to come. After the awards, the celebration began.
