C O N T R I B U T O R S 1 Guglielmo de'Micheli is an Italian photographer with more than 30 years of experience in editorial and corporate photography. He is a regular contributor to many international magazines such as Forbes, Time, BusinessWeek, Newsweek Japan, Reader's Digest, People, and others. A passionate traveler, sailor, and food lover, Guglielmo loves to cook and entertain friends sailing the Med and at his home in Florence. (Cover photo and photography for Francesco Sanapo, p. 60) 2 Paul Katzeff is the CEO and cofounder of Thanksgiving Coffee Company. He is a pioneer in the spe- cialty-coffee industry and has been a longtime advocate for fairly traded and sustainably grown coffee. Thanksgiving Coffee works closely with farmers and cooperatives to improve the sustainability of their coffee and livelihood, while producing some of the best coffee around. Paul is a cofounder of the Special- ty Coffee Association of America. He holds a bachelor's degree in agriculture from Cornell University and a master's degree in social work from Adelphi University. (Field Report: Uganda, p. 36) 3 Jeremy Martin is a freelance writer and photographer who has reported on coffee, craft beer, college sports, and business for a variety of publications over the past six years. A veteran of the café industry and graduate of Western Michigan University, Jeremy lives in Seattle, where he can often be found making sandwiches from whatever is left in the fridge and cracking wise for the amusement of his adoring wife, Amanda. (Coffea Academea, p. 72) 4 Erin Meister is a coffee professional with a totally-not-at-all-secret double life as a writer and a journalist. (Worst. Clark. Kent. Ever.) When she's in her coffee cups, she's a regional representative for Counter Culture Coffee's Counter Intelligence education program. She has written about coffee on the regular for Serious Eats (www.seriouseats.com), and has also contributed editorial and/or written work for fine publications such as The Boston Globe, The Washington Post, Time Out NY, and this gem you've got in your hot little hands. She can be reached at meister@justmeister.com. (Coffee Brewer Dream Book, p. 66) 5 Terika Raak is the manager of Caffe Ladro's Capitol Hill location in Seattle. She has been in the industry for more than 10 years and continues to get excited about learning new things every day. Over the past few years, Terika has enjoyed judging at the barista competitions and teaching the hands-on latte art classes at Coffee Fest. When Terika is not in a café, she can typically be found hiking in the mountains or planning her next adventure. (Pull, p. 22) 6 Author Ashley Rodriguez thought that she'd take a break from teaching middle school science and putz around in a coffee shop for a few months. She quickly found out that she's much better at explaining latte art than algebra, and has been making and teaching people about coffee at shops all over New York City ever since. At any given time, she's probably doing a crossword puzzle or making her friends watch the movie Clue. (The Barista Resumé, p. 78) 7 After earning her bachelor's degree in fine art at the University of California, Santa Cruz, Greta Romelfanger went on to specialize in scientific drawings of the natural world. She worked as a barista in Portland, Ore. at the Albina Press, where she curated art shows in addition to crafting espresso drinks. Greta moved to Seattle to complete a degree in natural-science illustration at the University of Washington in 2011, and then returned to Portland, where she continues to draw daily for a number of publications, as well as fortify herself with the city's amazing coffee. Beginning in 2010, Greta was the exclusive illustrator of Barista Magazine's "One By One" series on manually brewed coffee. To see more of Greta's work, go to www.greta-anne.com.
