Sensory skills was a stand-alone session led by Francisca Listov- Saabye, and covered brain function, taste basics, and acids. The always enjoyable Sonja Grant of Iceland helped attendees understand both the rules and structure of the WBC on a more intimate level. A session by Jesper Broberg Bang Olesen of Gejst Studios on the experience of both a café and the barista who works within it wasn't specifically coffee-focused, but it proved one of the most relevant topics to the Women Barista Connect event: He explained techniques to create experience, including body language, modulating voice, and power pos- ing. "It's OK to be un-perfect," Jesper told the crowd. Reigning Swedish Barista Champion, Linnéa Vannesjo, picked the dis- cussion of barista competitions up again, and told the story of her journey to the WBC stage. This was a great opening for the whole group to talk about goal-setting; seeing the bigger picture; finding one's own place in the coffee world; and trusting in our coffee, roaster, team, coach, and ourselves. As any great coffee event ends, so did ours—with a cupping. We cupped through 33 coffees, among them nine naturals and six Geshas. Having the opportunity for women baristas from Austria, Czech Republic, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, Iceland, Ireland, Germany, Poland, Romania, Sweden, Switzerland, and the U.K. come together to find a common language around coffee was truly a special and memora- ble experience.
