11. Amanda Juris AMANDA L OVES: HER COFFEETEC "GABOON" SPITTOON Director of coffee/green coffee buyer, Verve Coffee Roasters; Santa Cruz, Calif. It may seem foreign, the first time you spit out a spoonful of coffee only for it not to splash back in your face. But you'll soon grow fond of the harmonious melody that is your own spit reverberating off the spun- aluminum base of an empty spittoon. You may also find yourself overwhelmed by the staggering variety of utensils you're able to grasp with your lefthand, once it's no longer occupied with a spit cup—clipboards, pencils, books, a second spoon (for sick days), cell phone, etc. Equipped with three casters, your CoffeeTec Gaboon's 15-inch diameter base conforms ergonomically to your foot's in-step to guarantee it glides seemingly frictionlessly as you traverse any cupping table; round or rectangular. Where to buy it: www.coffeetec.com ESTHER MAASDAM LOVES: HER HANDKNIT TAMPER BAG Independent coffee consultant and barista trainer Netherlands Latte Art Champion, 2012, 2013, 2014 Amsterdam, Netherlands I absolutely love my tamper bag! I've been in coffee for 11 years, and always in the event industry, so travelling with all my coffee equipment is a daily routine. In my suitcase, I'll have brew methods, grinders, milk jugs, coffee and of course my pink Reg Barber tamper with my own logo. And as every barista knows, we're quite protective of our tampers. Nobody[else] can use it, maybe only trusted barista friends. But how to take your tamper with you? I've used the box it came in, I've used cloths, socks… you name it. And then my dear barista buddy, multiple competition coach, and all- around amazing coffee girl, Kim Staalman, knitted (yes, knitted) me this tamper bag with a heart! So I was sold. Kim is now famous for her Cupping Spoon Sock. Where to buy it: www.etsy.com/shop/CuppingSpoonSock 13. Bart Deprez BART DEPREZ LOVES: LE WHAF Co-owner, Viva Sara Kaffée Kortrijk, Belgium I will never forget the time I bought this machine in Paris. It's a device that uses a process called hydrodynamic cavitation to turn your beverage into a cloud so you can inhale it with a straw. We regularly use it in the bar when our guests are sitting at our slow coffee bar. While they are waiting for their beverage, we offer them a glass of coffee vapor. They love it because it's not only so cool to see your partner or friends smoking coffee, but their taste experience is amplified. This is why we all are so attached to this little beauty. Where to buy it: www.theawesomer.com DEVORAH LOVES: MAC PRO LONGWEAR LIPCOLOUR Retail operations manager Equator Coffees & Teas; San Francisco, Calif. I've often joked that the only thing I didn't like about working in coffee was that I couldn't glam it up. Wearing high heels behind the bar is a dangerous trip hazard, not to mention uncomfortable, and I've spent too many hours scrubbing lipstick off of demitasse [cups] in the dish pit to make someone else deal with my mess. Thankfully, my best friend and personal stylist, Alex LittleJohn, recommended this Mac longwear lipstick to me. This stuff goes on and stays on. It is not water soluble, so you can wear it without mucking up your dishes or interfering with tasting. It stays on so well you need to use an oil to take it off (I use coconut). This lipstick makes it easy to look good and feel good while working. Also, keep that espresso machine clean, ladies—it makes a great mirror.
