P U L L : E V E N T S EUROPEAN BARISTA CAMP GOES TO POLAND PHOTOS BY KENNETH R. OLSON + JORDAN SANCHEZ More than 100 coff ee professionals from across Europe and around the world made their way to Poznan, Poland in mid-October for the fourth edition of the European Barista Camp. Photos clockwise from top le : Barista Camp off ers a chance to get hands-on with some of the best equipment around. Here a endees practiced steaming milk and pulling shots. Instructor Patrick O'Malley led the sensory skills course and demonstrated an unusual cupping technique with his spoon. Every day a er classes wrapped up, the a endees had a chance to listen to presentations from a variety of knowledgeable speakers. The Coff ee Collective's Mikaela Gervard, who took second place in the 2016 World Brewers Cup, led a session on her experience as a competitor and how what she learned applies to the larger coff ee profession. Held on the grounds of an expansive resort and sports compound just outside of the city, the a endees had an opportunity to take classes, practice skills, and build their international community. As a representative of the Barista Guild of America, Onyx Coff ee Lab's Gabe Smentek lent a hand at the event and had a blast engaging with his European counterparts. The Specialty Coff ee Association is working toward unifi cation of the guilds on both sides of the Atlantic. 34 barista magazine
